This image is called Jingle Bells! Below is a tutorial on how I made this Christmas sled. :)
Here is the original sled. I almost forgot to take a picture before I covered the entire thing with gesso.
This is my first attempt! FAIL! I painted it backwards! I had to sand it off and start over. :'(
Here is what it looked like as I was sanding it. I thought this made an interesting barn door look. But I had something different in mind.
So onto painting it over! :) I painted the entire sled with white acrylic paint this time.
I then added the crackle medium over the white paint. When it had fully dried, I painted over the medium with red and green acrylic paints. I painted the edges with brown acrylic paint.
As it dries it will begin to make nice crackle accents. When it fully dried, I added my embellishments. I tied a bow with some Christmas ribbon and added 3 tiny jingle bells to the center. I also added larger bells to the sides and tied with twine. I colored the image with my copic markers and added some berries to frame it! Here it is finished!

ReplyDeleteThis is very, very pretty! I love making Christmas decorations. Several years ago I painted a snowman scene on a sled very similar to this (it was a painting class I took). I might just sand that sled down and do something like yours. I love the crackle look. Your failed attempt with the old barn look is REALLY nice! Sandra
